Snowy Session: Dog Photography in Caledonia, ON

The year is off to a great start, with the first session of 2025 being a scenic outdoor snowy session in Caledonia, Ontario. The sun was shining, the weather was great, and the model was adorable.

This cutie confirmed my belief that a pet photographer is nothing, if not adaptable. His session was originally scheduled to be an indoor studio session, but as much as we plan and prepare, sometimes the pets have other ideas. This timid boy was showing signs of anxiety and stress with the studio background and lighting equipment. Of course, we tried the usual socialization techniques, with great patience and care for his comfort, but ultimately decided a studio setting just wasn’t for him.

After a break to allow the dog to relax we decided to pivot and take the session outdoors, with natural light and a longer lens to give him the space he needed. He was much more in his element, was more relaxed and confident, and even had a bit of fun in the snow. We captured some beautiful snowy images in a nearby field, under a wide open sky.

This session is a great example of the patience, flexibility and knowledge that is needed in pet photography. It isn’t just about making great images, it’s about the pets and being able to understand and adapt to their own unique needs. Even though they can’t talk, they can certainly tell you what they need if you know what to look for.

I’m very much looking forward to many more great sessions just like this for the 2025 year. If you’re interested in booking a session, reach out to me here.
