Frequently Asked Questions

What if my dog needs to stay on leash, will that be a problem?

This is probably the most commonly asked question. You must be looking at my portfolio of all the scenic outdoor locations with dogs off leash. You’d probably never guess that actually 90% or more of The Doggy Did It Photography sessions are actually done on leash. Safety first, right? Your final images will be professionally edited to remove the leash… and sometimes even the people attached to them. You can see an example in the image below. So worry not, you can still get those gorgeous scenic outdoor portraits with your dog on leash.

No problem at all.

Should I hire a professional pet photographer?

Is the price of professional dog photography worth it?

The short answer to both is, Yes!

Capturing cute snapshots of your pet is easy, but creating stunning, timeless artwork of your most favourite creature takes a pro. As a professional pet photographer, I specialize in working with pets of all personalities, even the anxious, energetic, or reactive ones. With 13 years of experience (and plenty of tricks up my sleeve), I know how to bring out the best in every furry friend; training not required.

Using top of the line equipment and creative know-how, I deliver sharp, beautifully composed images that go way beyond even the best cellphone pics. Every session is custom-tailored to your pet’s unique personality, whether that means a trail adventure for your energetic pup or a cozy garden session for your furry cuddle bug.

And when it’s comes to enjoying your photographs, I make sure they don’t get buried in all the other digital photos crowding your phone or social media. You will have the option to purchase gorgeous artwork, albums and prints. I work with top professional labs right here in Canada to turn your favourite images into stunning, archival-quality artwork you’ll be proud to display. The lasting memories will bring you joy for years to come, and these timeless keepsakes preserve your pet’s memory and fill your home with joy, even after they’re no longer with you.

Do you offer mini sessions?

Yes! Well, sort of.

I offer Spotlight Sessions. These are usually themed specialty sessions at certain times of year. For example, Lavender Spotlight Sessions in June, Sunflower Spotlight Sessions in August, and Christmas Spotlight Sessions in December. Visit the Spotlight Session page for more information.

Spotlight Sessions

This is my first pet photography session, what can I expect?

Since each pet is unique, and each session is custom designed around your specific needs and wants, one session can be very different from the next. But there's no reason to feel nervous; with 13 years of pet photography experience, you are in good hands. Your initial consult will determine your session specifics, and you will be able to ask as many questions as you want. And I will be there to guide you every step of the way.

Where are you located, and how far will you travel?

I am based out of Erin, Ontario and serve most locations in Wellington, Dufferin, Halton, Peel and York. I am able travel further, if needed, to work in any of your favourite locations. Travel fees may apply, and will be discussed during your initial consultation.

My dog is anxious / shy / not yet trained. Will that be an issue?

The safety and security of your pet is very important, so I will never ask your pet to do something it (or you) are not comfortable with. I have experience working with all types of animal behaviours and will make sure your session will progress at a pace that works well for us all. We will work together to create the most suitable environment for capturing those great images of your pet. Besides, you will be doing all of the handling, so you’re always in control.

Can people be included in some of the photos too?

Yes, I can include some images with you or your family during your session. However, since I am primarily a pet photographer, my work will mostly be focused on your pet. We can discuss strategies for including your family during your initial consultation.

What if the weather is bad on my outdoor session date?

If it rains on your outdoor session date we can reschedule to a date that work for us both, or we can switch to an on-location indoor studio session, where I will set up in your own home. Making sure you get the images you want, and doing it safely, is my top priority so outdoor sessions will always be rescheduled if there is lightening or extreme weather. If the forecast calls for it, we can set up a back-up session date in advance so rescheduling will be a breeze (pun intended).

Can I have the high resolution digital images?

Yes! Each purchased images comes with a matching high resolution digital image download. Whether you purchase a small print, a large wall art, or a whole album, the images are yours to keep forever, including the digital copy.

With your Doggy Did It experience you can expect a tailored session, quality images, and exceptional patience and understanding of your pet’s needs.
